Dangers of Vaping – Is Electronic USING TOBACCO Dangerous?
What exactly is Vaping? Vaping may be the act of inhaling the vaporized aerosol (mixed with propylene glycol) from a like device, most often a Vaporizer, that is plugged into a cigarette lighter. The Vaporizer industry has hardly any regulation. The dangers of Vaping remain being slowly found. The American Cancer Society says that the vapor made by a typical “high powered” vaporizer poses no serious health risks.
But what about E-liquid? E-liquid is a lot harder to regulate than vapor. The FDA says that it’s basically the ditto as tobacco. While the US FDA doesn’t ban or restrict e-liquid, they do ban the sale of any sort of “rolling cigarettes”. This seems unfair to numerous vapers.
Most E-liquids are made up of a variety of chemical compounds, some of which have been proven to cause cancer. It isn’t just the vapor that’s bad for your wellbeing: E-liquids are also made out of carcinogens and other toxic chemicals. One company claims that their E-juice is clear of all these harmful chemicals, but you’d be hard pressed to find this out through their website. There are thousands of different chemical compounds used in E-liquids. Are the manufacturers’ assurances true?
There is a pending multi-million dollar study published by the Associated Press. This study viewed the effects on adults of long-term smokers who have been later identified as having lung disease. What were the findings? The study found that long-term smokers who continued to use e-liquids had more issues with chronic bronchitis than non-smokers. This news release has been widely reported across the media.
What about second hand smoking? According to the American Cancer Society, vapors released from e-liquid cigarettes may contain tar and other cancer causing chemicals. One reason we recommend against vaping is because of this potential exposure. You may also hear from the American Cancer Society on their webpage on the dangers of vaporing because of second hand smoke.
The dangers of E-Liquids do not end in the surgeon general’s report on the dangers of vapors. A fresh study from the American Heart Association viewed the ingredients in some popular brands of e-cigs and found that over two thousand chemicals had been detected. On the list of chemicals identified were carcinogens like propylene glycol and ethylene oxide. These chemicals have already been linked to cancer. Other known carcinogens include nicotine, toluene, tars and arsenic.
There is yet a report published from the Royal Society of Medicine that looking at the long term ramifications of E-Liquids on human health. This study published in the British Journal of Cancer has looked at more than twelve thousand individuals who quit smoking because of E-Cigarette use. While there is a decrease in mortality, there was a significant upsurge in risk for cardiovascular disease, stroke and oral cancer. Not only was there a significant increase in risk for these diseases when working with electronic cigarettes, but there is also an increased threat of stroke when using them. It was concluded that these dangers were strongly linked to the ingredients used in e-juices.
We understand the desire to stop smoking and we believe the benefits provided by e-juices are worth the risks, but much like anything there’s always a risk. The end vapinger result is that the more research that’s done on E-Cigarettes the higher prepared we will be to make informed decisions about their use. If you or somebody you know smoke or are thinking about smoking today, then it really is in your best interest to give E-Cigs a try. But don’t forget to keep yourself informed about the dangers of vapors and any potential problems connected with their use!
